Daniel Toroitich arap Moi CGH (/ ˈ m oʊ iː / MOH-ee; 2 September 1924 – 4 February 2020) [2] was a Kenyan politician who served as the second president of Kenya from 1978 to 2002. He is the country's longest-serving president to date.

The presidency of Daniel arap Moi began on 22 August 1978, when Daniel arap Moi was sworn in as the 2nd President of Kenya, and ended on 30 December 2002. Moi, a KANU party member, took office following the death of the then president Jomo Kenyatta on the same day.

Moi University was established in 1984 by an Act of Parliament (Moi University Act, 1984) as the second public university in Kenya. This was on the recommendation of a Presidential Working Party, chaired by Prof. Collins B. Mackay, which had collected views from Kenyans about the desirability of the same.
