2022年5月26日 · The island’s color is a regal purple and its flowers come from the endemic mokihana tree (pelea anisata). The native citrus tree grows in wet forests only on Kauaʻi. As mokihana translates to odor or fragrance, the tree’s thin leaves give off a strong scent resembling anise when crushed.

Mokihana, as well as other types of alani, appear to be used little in home and commercial landscapes, but should prove to be wonderful addition if not only for its aromatic appeal alone. It does fairly well at low elevations as a shrub with some shade and sufficient moisture.
