Minas Morgul, the Tower of Black Arts, was once a fortress of Gondor, initially called Minas Ithil or the Tower of the Moon. As the easternmost fortification in the Kingdom of Gondor, Minas Ithil safeguarded the eastern borders of the realm and protected the capital Osgiliath from the forces of Mordor during the early part of the Third Age.

2024年10月22日 · Minas Morgul (originally called Minas Ithil) was the twin city of Minas Tirith before its fall to the forces of Sauron in the Third Age. It was situated some way within the narrow Morgul Valley, guarding the pass between Ithilien and Mordor. All was dark about it, earth and sky, but it was lit with light.

The Lord of the Rings calls them Sauron's "most terrible servants". Their leader, known as the Witch-king of Angmar, the Lord of the Nazgûl, or the Black Captain, was Sauron's chief agent for most of the Third Age. At the end of the Third Age, their main stronghold was the city of Minas Morgul at the entrance to Sauron's realm, Mordor.

Minas Morgul was a city of Gondor, originally known as Minas Ithil. Sauron's forces attacked it and overtook it, turning it into a fortress for his Nazgûl.

Morgul Orcs, also known as the "Orcs of Minas Morgul", were Orcs of Mordor, originating directly in Minas Morgul. Their highest leader was the Witch-king, who led the attack upon Gondor. But at the Tower of Cirith Ungol hundreds of them were killed by their own Mordor Orc brethren over Frodo 's mithril shirt, including Gorbag, one of their leaders.
