Part of the only father-son combination in the history of Springbok rugby to captain the team, Morne du Plessis followed in his father Felix’s footsteps and went on to become one of South Africa’s greatest players and leaders.

A great captain, he was manager of the Springbok side in 1995 that famously won the Rugby World Cup and received the trophy from Nelson Mandela. Morné is a legend of South African rugby. Widely regarded as one of his country's best ever loose forwards, he captained the Springboks for five years.

Widely regarded as one of his country's best ever loose forwards, he captained the Springboks for five years. He packed down at eight for Western Province and was first picked as a Springbok in 1971. In total he played 22 Test matches and was captain, like his father Felix before him, for 15 of those matches, leading the team to 12 wins.

Under his captaincy, the Springboks won 13 times and lost only twice. He managed the 1995 Springbok World Cup victory in what is regarded as one of the greatest moments in South African sporting history. He has been recognised by the Laureus World Sports Awards, and has also been inducted into the International Rugby Hall of Fame.
