The MPI MP20GP is locomotive that was commissioned as part of UP's green initiative. UP supplied GP50's as cores for these rebuilds. The units were fitted with CAT 3612 prime movers, these units are Tier 2 compliant. All 12 of UP's units were built between 2005 and 2007, and are generally used on locals and in yards on UP in Texas.

Engines has two exhaust side by side and emit a low growling sound during acceleration. Great new sound! Must be made for Texas service as each unit has a sign that reference that state. Horns are painted gray.

Pacific Harbor Line, which serves the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, owns two MPI-built MP20B-3 locomotives. One of them, number 21, is seen backing a cut of tank cars into the railroad's new yard in Wilmington, California on August 30th, 2014.

PHL 20 has just passed the Stars-n-Stripes and PHL colors flying proud at Pier A Yard in Wilmington, CA. On the tenth anniversary of the September 11th attacks on New York City and Washington DC, Pacific Harbor Line MP20B-3 20 works a cut of cars at the railroads Pier A Yard in Wilmington, California.

NJ Transit MP20B-3 locomotive #1002 at Hoboken Terminal. NJT 1002 sits in between assignments on track 18 in Hoboken Terminal 9/11/2008. A few old cab cars have been stored at the MMC. Ex-GP40FH 4131, rebuilt by Motive Power/MPI 2008. NJT 1002 transfers two road units to Hoboken Terminal from Raritan Yard.

Y2106 was built by Electro-Motive in November 1980, #797322-1, as MP 3500, GP50. It became UP 50 on October 18, 1988, and was renumbered 960 on October 24, 1991. It was renumbered 5558 on March 12, 1997, and renumbered 1658 on April 25, 2007. It was retired on May 27, 2005, and rebuilt by Motive Power International as Y2106 on July 7, 2006.
