First Tab “General” includes “Normal startup, Diagnostic startup, and Selective startup". Normal startup. Starts Windows as is, with all the installed startup items, drivers and services. Diagnostic start up. Similar to booting into safe mode as it runs only Windows services and drivers.

I wanted to stop automatic start up of a program. In windows 7 you were able to type "msconfig" in the search command and the start up box opened.

Two registry keys store the items removed (unchecked) from startup by the msconfig program. Open a Run window (Windows Logo key+R), type regedit, press Enter and in the left pane navigate to H KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig. One or both subkeys (startupfolder and startupreg) contain entries for disabled items.
