Mwea Rice Mills Ltd dates back to May 1967 where it was incorporated in Kenya to operate as the main rice mill at Mwea Irrigation Scheme with its major function being storage, milling and marketing of rice from the Irrigation Scheme.

Mwea Rice Mills Ltd, a subsidiary of the National Irrigation Authority, is a limited liability company owned by the National Irrigation Authority (55%) and the Mwea Rice Farmers through the Mwea Rice Growers Multipurpose Co-operative Society Limited (MRGM) (45%).
