He was the oldest of seven children of Norwegian immigrant Ole Floren and his wife, Thilde ("Tillie") Louise Lensegrav Floren. People in the area depended on their own resources for entertainment, and when Floren was six he already had the desire to be a music-maker.

Floren was born to Ole and Tillie Florence. A first-generation American of Norwegian immigrant parentage, he grew up on a farm near Roslyn in Day County, South Dakota with two brothers, Arlie and Duane (a.k.a. Dewey), and four sisters, Valborg, Genevieve, Virginia, and Gloria.

Burgess married Kristie Floren, the daughter of Welk accordionist Myron Floren, on Valentine's Day (February 14), 1971. The couple live in Hollywood Hills and are parents to four children. [8]

Bobby knew Kristie Floren, a daughter of Welk's Happy Norwegian accordionist Myron Floren, from the annual family Christmas shows. Their relationship grew from acquaintances and friends to husband and wife when they married on Valentine's Day, 1971. They now have four children‚ Becki, Robert, Wendi and Brenton, and eight grandchildren.

He was survived by his wife, Joan, and their two children. Myron Floren was a pioneer of polka music. He helped to popularize the genre in the United States and beyond. He was also a talented musician and performer.

2022年4月8日 · The National Music Museum is delighted to announce the acquisition of the Myron Floren Archive and Accordion Collection donated to the museum by his youngest daughter Heidi, who personally transported them to Vermillion during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The son of a grain farmer and the eldest of seven children, Floren was born Nov. 5, 1919, in Webster, S.D. He fell in love with music at age 6. "All the neighboring families would get together on Saturday nights, roll back the rugs and do a little dancing," he recalled in a 1997 interview with the Los Angeles Times.
