Common Berthing Mechanism - Wikipedia
The Common Berthing Mechanism (CBM) connects habitable elements in the US Orbital Segment (USOS) of the International Space Station (ISS). The CBM has two distinct sides that, once mated, form a cylindrical vestibule between modules. The vestibule is about 16 inches (0.4 m) long and 6 feet (1.8 m) across.

Berthing and deberthing of two elements together on-orbit occurs many times throughout the Space Station Assembly Sequence to provide pressurized access between the module vestibules via hatches.
The Common Berthing Mechanism (CBM) was used on the ISS as the primary connection between pressurized elements on the US segment. As the name implies, the CBM is a berthing system instead of a docking system.

How are hatches set up in the common berthing mechanism (CBM)?
I have read about the common berthing mechanism on ISS and how the attachment process works and how the pressure seal is established, and I think I have that part figured out. There is a passive CBM and an active CBM which mate together and provide a pressure tight seal against space around them.
