GEDI Lidar | NASA Earthdata
The Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI) instrument is a full-waveform lidar installed on the International Space Station that produces detailed observations of the 3D structure of Earth’s surface. GEDI's three lasers precisely measure forest canopy height, canopy vertical structure, and surface elevation.
Home Page - GEDI
GEDI observes nearly all tropical and temperate forests using a self-contained laser altimeter on the International Space Station. GEDI’s data are of immense value for forest and water resource management and weather prediction.
GEDI | NASA Earthdata
The Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI) aims to characterize the effects of changing climate and land use on Earth. Specifically, GEDI helps researchers study ecosystem structure and dynamics to enable radically improved quantification and understanding of Earth's carbon cycle and variability of life.
GEDI - NASA Science
2023年8月2日 · GEDI will help determine how deforestation has contributed to atmospheric CO2 concentrations, how much carbon forests will absorb in the future, and how habitat degradation will affect global biodiversity.
Mission Overview - GEDI
GEDI was competitively selected as a NASA Earth Ventures Instrument (EVI) mission in 2014. Cost-capped at $94 M, GEDI is led by the University of Maryland in collaboration with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.
GEDI | ESSP - NASA
2020年11月3日 · Its primary two-year mission is to produce high-resolution laser ranging observations of Earth in order to characterize the effects of climate change and land use on ecosystem structure and dynamics.
Innovative GEDI Instrument Now Gathering Forest Data - NASA
2019年2月1日 · That instrument — the Global Ecosystems Dynamics Investigation, or GEDI — is now collecting data as a payload attached to the Japanese Experiment Module, the largest science facility on the International Space Station.
Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation Lidar (EVI-2) - NASA
Launched December 5, 2018, the scientific goal of the Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation Lidar (GEDI) is to characterize the effects of changing climate and land use on ecosystem structure and dynamics to enable radically improved quantification and understanding of the Earth's carbon cycle and biodiversity.
Earth in the Third Dimension: First GEDI Data Available
2024年10月18日 · GEDI has the highest resolution and densest sampling of any lidar ever put in orbit. GEDI’s 25-meter footprint is large enough to measure whole trees while being small enough to accurately detect ground on steep terrain. Left image shows how GEDI’s three lasers are divided into eight parallel observation tracks to collect data.
NASA SVS | GEDI Media Resources
2018年10月9日 · GEDI observes nearly all tropical and temperate forests using a self-contained laser altimeter on the International Space Station. GEDI has the highest resolution and densest sampling of any lidar ever put in orbit. This has required a number of innovative technologies to be developed at NASA Goddard.
