The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) is a survey research program conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) to assess the health and nutritional status of adults and children in the United States, and to track changes over time. [1]
For NCHS surveys, the recommended number of degrees of freedom for a hypothesis test generally is the number of PSUs minus the number of sampling strata. This is the number used when record-level survey data are analyzed using survey analysis software, but not the number used when aggregated data are analyzed.
