The Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) Strengths and Risks (STAR) Framework is new part of the NFP model and is designed to help NFP nurses and supervisors systematically characterize levels of strength and risk exhibited by the mothers and families they serve.

Nurse-Family Partnership ® (NFP) is a home visiting model shaped by attachment theory, human ecology theory, and social-cognitive or self-efficacy theory. The model is client-centered and driven by goals the client identifies.

Nurse-Family Partnership® (NFP) is an intensive, strengths-based, trauma- and violence-informed community health program whose goals are to improve the health and lives of first-time moms and their children living in poverty.

Nurse-Family Partnership nurses teach first-time moms techniques to promote this vital nurturing, and they model the skill through the supportive and caring relationships they develop with the moms and their babies.

These findings confirm that the NFP model improves outcomes related to child health, development and academic success; maternal health and life course; parenting practices; and economic self-sufficiency.

Under the NFP model, registered nurses make regular home visits to first-time, low-income mothers for a two and a half year period beginning in pregnancy. The program is renowned for its remarkable reduction in negative outcomes for babies, outcomes that have been documented by 40 years of clinical trials.
