NGC 1317 (also known as NGC 1318) is a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Fornax, in the Fornax cluster. It was discovered by Julius Schmidt on January 19, 1865. It appears to be interacting with the much larger NGC 1316, but uncertainty in distance estimates and scales of tidal distortions make this uncertain.

NGC 1317 is a Intermediate Spiral Galaxy in the Fornax constellation. NGC 1317 is situated south of the celestial equator and, as such, it is more easily visible from the southern hemisphere. Given its visual magnitude of 11.02, NGC 1317 is visible with the help of a telescope having an aperture of 6 inches (150mm) or more.
