NGC 1758 is a Open Cluster in the Taurus constellation. NGC 1758 is situated close to the celestial equator and, as such, it is at least partly visible from both hemispheres in certain times of the year. 2024年5月29日 · NGC 1750 and NGC 1758 are two overlapping, independent open clusters with NGC 1758 being further away. Both lie behind a dust layer of the Taurus dark cloud, which causes a reddening of the light. NGC 1750 contains 79 members and NGC 1758 contains 57 members down to 15 mag.

The Intersellarum Deep Sky Atlas (2014) once again lists all three NGC numbers. Some clarification as to what is going on is provided in Stephen O’Meara’s book “The Secret Deep”. O’Meara lists the two smaller clusters NGC 1750 as his Secret Deep Object 17 and NGC 1758 as his Secret Deep Object 18.

Discovered in 1785 by William Herschel with an 18.7-inch f/13 speculum telescope. He called it "a cluster of pretty compressed stars with many eS stars mixed with them." The RNGC (Sulentic and Tifft 1973) notes that this is a open cluster. Their coded description reads VLOOSE CL DC.
