NGC 2204 is an open cluster of stars in the Canis Major constellation. It was discovered by the German-English astronomer William Herschel on 6 February 1785. [5] The cluster has an integrated visual magnitude of 8.6 and spans a diameter of 10.0′. Resolving the individual member stars is a challenge with a 10 to 12-inch amateur telescope. [3]

NGC 2204 is a Open Cluster in the Canis Major constellation. NGC 2204 is situated close to the celestial equator and, as such, it is at least partly visible from both hemispheres in certain times of the year.

Photographic BV and photoelectric UBV photometry of stars in the open cluster NGC 2204 is presented. The cluster has a long giant branch reaching B − V 0 ∼ 1 m ⋅ 8 which probably includes a red variable of substantial amplitude. The giants appear to have a range in colour reminiscent of their counterparts in NGC 188.

In the northwest part of Canis Major, NGC2204 is a medium-scaled open cluster positioned at 1.8 degrees WSW of beta CMa. The cluster contains about 80 stars within a span of 12 arc minutes.
