NGC 2357 is a spiral galaxy located in the constellation of Gemini. It was discovered by Édouard Stephan on 6 February 1885. [2]

NGC 2357 is a Spiral Galaxy in the Gemini constellation. NGC 2357 is situated close to the celestial equator and, as such, it is at least partly visible from both hemispheres in certain times of the year. Given its B magnitude of 14.6, NGC 2357 is visible with the help of a telescope having an aperture of 20 inches (500mm) or more.

From Virginia Beach , NGC2357 is visible in the evening sky, becoming accessible around 20:07 (EDT), 71° above your south-eastern horizon, as dusk fades to darkness. It will then reach its highest point in the sky at 21:05, 76° above your southern horizon.

NGC 2357/FGC 0619 is a large flat galaxy in central Gemini seen nearly edge on. Its distance is about 110 million light-years both by redshift and the median of 18 mostly Tully Fisher based measurements.

This object is a rarely imaged edge-on galaxy located 100 million light years away in the constellation of Gemini at a declination of +23 degrees. This magnitude 14 galaxy spans 4.5 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 130,000 light years. Not much has been written about this galaxy.

2025年1月28日 · Ngc 2357 is a galaxy in Gemini ; magnitude: 14.5 ; size: 3.2' x 0.5' ; very faint edge on, averted vision only. Probably one of the faintest and hardest to see galaxies I have observed. I used a 8mm Ethos at 240x with my 14.5 StarStructure f/4.3
