NGC 3044 is a Galaxy in the Sextans constellation. NGC 3044 is situated close to the celestial equator and, as such, it is at least partly visible from both hemispheres in certain times of the year. Given its B magnitude of 12.7, NGC 3044 is visible with the help of a telescope having an aperture of 10 inches (250mm) or more.

NGC 3044 is a nice edge on spiral galaxy, close to the superthin variety. First discovered by William Herschel in December 1784 it lies at an estimated distance of about 67 million light-years from us.

2013年6月2日 · We present the first maps of NGC 3044 and NGC 4157 at m and m from the JCMT as well as the first maps at 617 MHz from the GMRT. High latitude emission has been detected in both the radio continuum and sub-mm for NGC 3044 and in the radio continuum for NGC 4157, including several new features.

There is a clear correlation between the 617 MHz and λ 850 μm emission in the two galaxies. In the case of NGC 3044 for which the λ 850 μm data are strongly dominated by cold dust, this implies a relation between the non-thermal synchrotron emission and cold dust.

From Redmond , NGC3044 is visible between 19:35 and 03:21.It will become accessible at around 19:35, when it rises to an altitude of 21° above your south-eastern horizon. It will reach its highest point in the sky at 23:28, 43° above your southern horizon.
