NGC 3187, also known as HGC 44D, is a large barred spiral galaxy located in the constellation Leo. Its velocity relative to the cosmic microwave background is 1,901 ± 22 km/s, which corresponds to a Hubble distance of 28.0 ± 2.0 Mpc (~91.3 million ly). [1] NGC 3187 was discovered by Irish physicist George Stoney in 1850. [2]

NGC 3187 is a Galaxy in the Leo constellation. NGC 3187 is situated close to the celestial equator and, as such, it is at least partly visible from both hemispheres in certain times of the year. Given its visual magnitude of 13.44, NGC 3187 is visible with the help of a telescope having an aperture of 10 inches (250mm) or more.

The two spiral galaxies in the center of the image are edge-on NGC 3190 with its distinctive, warped dust lanes, and S-shaped NGC 3187. Along with the bright elliptical, NGC 3193 at the bottom left, they are also known as Arp 316. The spiral in the upper right corner is NGC 3185, the 4th member of the Hickson group.
