NGC 4499 is a Barred Spiral Galaxy in the Centaurus constellation. NGC 4499 is situated south of the celestial equator and, as such, it is more easily visible from the southern hemisphere. Given its B magnitude of 13.58, NGC 4499 is visible with the help of a telescope having an aperture of 14 inches (350mm) or more.

Historical Identification: Per Dreyer, NGC 4499 (= GC 3047 = JH 3397, 1860 RA 12 24 40, NPD 129 12.3) is "very faint, large, round, very gradually a little brighter middle".
