NGC 4627 is a Spiral Galaxy located in the constellation of Canes Venatici in the northern hemisphere. NGC 4627's distance from Earth is 30,446,697.86 light years. NGC 4627 is called NGC 4627 in the New General Catalogue (NGC).

In this gorgeous color image, the galaxy's yellowish core, dark dust clouds, bright blue star clusters, and red star forming regions are easy to spot. A companion galaxy, the small elliptical NGC 4627, is just above the Whale Galaxy. Out of view, off the lower edge of the picture lies another distorted galaxy, hockey stick-shaped NGC 4656.

NGC 4631 is a edge-on, spiral galaxy in the Canes Venatici constellation, approximately 25 million light-years away from Earth. It is also known as the Whale Galaxy because of its elongated shape, which resembles a swimming whale. The blow of the whale is the elliptical galaxy NGC 4627. It was discovered by William Herschel on March 1787.

NGC 4627 is a Elliptical Galaxy in the Canes Venatici constellation. NGC 4627 is situated north of the celestial equator and, as such, it is more easily visible from the northern hemisphere. Given its visual magnitude of 12.43, NGC 4627 is visible with the help of a telescope having an aperture of 8 inches (200mm) or more.

The small galaxy NGC 4627 was discovered on 20 March 1787 by the German-British astronomer William Herschel. It is a dwarf elliptical galaxy and a companion of NGC 4631. Both galaxies show mutual interaction and are listed in the Arp catalog [199] under the number (Arp 281) as double galaxies with inflow and attraction.
