NGC 4698 is a barred spiral galaxy [5] located around 55 [3] million light years away from Earth in the constellation of Virgo. It belongs to the Virgo Cluster of galaxies and is positioned near the northeastern edge of this assemblage. [4]

2012年4月10日 · The early-type spiral NGC 4698 is known to host a nuclear disc of gas and stars which is rotating perpendicularly with respect to the galaxy main disc. In addition, the bulge and main disc are characterised by a remarkable geometrical decoupling. Indeed they appear elongated orthogonally to each other.

Koopmann and Kenney (2004) classify NGC 4698 as an ``anemic" spiral because of its very low normalized star formation rate compared to median properties of samples of Virgo Cluster galaxies.
