NGC 5023 is an edge-on spiral galaxy located in the constellation Canes Venatici. It is considered a member of the M51 Group although it is actually relatively isolated from other galaxies. [2] It is approximately 15 kiloparsecs (49,000 light-years) across and contains more than 200 stars with an apparent magnitude of greater than 23.5. [1]

NGC5023 is a medium-scaled edge-on galaxy positioned at 6.4 degrees NNE from α CVn (Cor Caroli). The galaxy has been classified as a spiral with an undeveloped central bulge. We need a comparatively larger telescope to observe with our eyes because the galaxy looks dimmed with a brightness of 13th magnitude and a length of 6.7 arc minutes.
