NGC 5164 is a Barred Spiral Galaxy in the Ursa Major constellation. NGC 5164 is situated north of the celestial equator and, as such, it is more easily visible from the northern hemisphere. Given its B magnitude of 14.6, NGC 5164 is visible with the help of a telescope having an aperture of 20 inches (500mm) or more.

NGC 5164 ist eine 13,7 mag helle Balkenspiralgalaxie vom Hubble-Typ SBb im Sternbild Großer Bär, die etwa 327 Millionen Lichtjahre von der Milchstraße entfernt. Sie wurde am 14. April 1789 von Wilhelm Herschel mit einem 18,7-Zoll-Spiegelteleskop entdeckt, [3] der sie dabei mit „cF, S, iR“ [4] beschrieb.
