NGC 5477 is a dwarf galaxy located in the constellation of Ursa Major, 20 million light years away from Earth. It was discovered on April 14, 1789, by the astronomer William Herschel. [3]

NGC 5477 is a Spiral Galaxy in the Ursa Major constellation. NGC 5477 is situated north of the celestial equator and, as such, it is more easily visible from the northern hemisphere. Given its visual magnitude of 14.01, NGC 5477 is visible with the help of a telescope having an aperture of 14 inches (350mm) or more.

The dwarf galaxy NGC 5477 and the active emission region NGC 5471 are neigbours of the famous M 101 spiral galaxy un Ursa Major.
