NGC 5728 is an active barred spiral galaxy located 146 [2] million light years away in the southern constellation of Libra. It was discovered on May 7, 1787 by William Herschel. The designation comes from the New General Catalogue of J. L. E. Dreyer, published in 1888. [7]

NGC 5728 is a Spiral Galaxy in the Libra constellation. NGC 5728 is situated close to the celestial equator and, as such, it is at least partly visible from both hemispheres in certain times of the year. Given its visual magnitude of 13.4, NGC 5728 is visible with the help of a telescope having an aperture of 10 inches (250mm) or more.
