NGC 6544 is a small globular cluster visible in the constellation Sagittarius. It is magnitude 7.5, diameter 1 arcminute. It is less than 1 degree southeast of Messier 8, the Lagoon Nebula.

The Lagoon Nebula is truly colossal — even by astronomical standards — and measures 55 light-years across and 20 light-years from top to bottom.

2023年6月19日 · NGC 6544 is located more than 8,000 light-years away in the constellation of Sagittarius. Also known as GCl 87, this globular cluster hosts several tens of thousands of stars. NGC 6544 was discovered in 1784 by the German-born British astronomer William Herschel, who looked at it through his 47-cm (18.4-inch) reflector.

The globular clusters NGC 6544 and 6553 are located in the constellation Sagittarius, roughly one and two degrees southeast of the gorgeous Lagoon Nebula (Messier 8). They are on 22 June in opposition to the Sun.

2000年12月22日 · We report the detection of a new 3.06 ms binary pulsar in the globular cluster NGC 6544 using a Fourier-domain "acceleration" search. With an implied companion mass of ~0.01 M☉ and an orbital period of only Pb ~ 1.7 hr, it displays orbital properties very similar to many pulsars that are eclipsed by their companion winds.

We present a chemical characterization of the globular cluster NGC 6544 with high-resolution spectroscopy. The characterization of the cluster chemical fingerprint, given its status of ‘interloper’ towards the Galactic bulge and clear signatures of tidal disruption in its core is crucial for future chemical tagging efforts.
