NGC 6905, also known as the Blue Flash Nebula, is a planetary nebula in the constellation Delphinus. It was discovered by William Herschel in 1784. The central star is 14.0 mag. The distance of the nebula, as with most planetary nebulae, is not well determined and estimates range between 1.7 and 2.6 kpc. [2]

2017年9月30日 · The Blue Flash Nebula, catalogued as NGC 6905 in the New General Catalogue, is a small but relatively bright planetary nebula located in the constellation Delphinus. The nebula has an apparent magnitude of 10.9 and lies at an approximate distance of 7,500 light years (2,300 parsecs) from Earth.

Two of these objects are of particular interest: the easily observed planetary nebulae NGC 6891 and NGC 6905. NGC 6891 lies at an estimated distance of 7,200 light years and can be found two and a half degrees south of the 5th-magnitude star Rho Aquilae.

The planetary nebula NGC 6905 is located in the northwestern corner of Delphinus. To find it, trace 5.8 degrees northwest from the northern αDel that forms the diamond shape of Delphinus. This planetary nebula has a rugby ball-like shape with a long diameter of about 70 arc seconds, and its central star is a 15.7th magnitude white dwarf.

NGC 6905 is a small but fairly bright planetary nebula on the Delphinus, close to the Cygnus border. In a 10" telescope the planetary is easily visible, although moderately high magnification is needed to see the disk, the outer edges of which are brighter than the central regions.

Abstract: We present a multiwavelength characterization of the planetary nebula (PN) NGC 6905 and its [Wolf–Rayet]-type ([WR]) central star (CSPN) HD 193949. Our Nordic Optical Telescope Alhambra Faint Object Spectrograph and Camera (ALFOSC) spectra and images unveil in unprecedented detail the high-ionization structure of NGC 6905.
