NGC 871 is a barred spiral galaxy in the Aries constellation. [1] Its discovery and first description was realized by William Herschel on October 14, 1784 [2] and the findings made public through his Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters of Stars in 1786.

NGC 871 is a Galaxy in the Aries constellation. NGC 871 is situated close to the celestial equator and, as such, it is at least partly visible from both hemispheres in certain times of the year. Given its visual magnitude of 13.61, NGC 871 is visible with the help of a telescope having an aperture of 14 inches (350mm) or more.
