NGC 987 is a Barred Spiral Galaxy located in the constellation of Triangulum in the northern hemisphere. NGC 987 is called NGC 987 in the New General Catalogue (NGC). This catalogue is a list of deep space objects compiled by John Louis Emil Dreyer in 1888 to update John Herschel's earlier work.

NGC 987 est une galaxie lenticulaire située dans la constellation du Triangle. Sa vitesse par rapport au fond diffus cosmologique est de 4 349 ± 20 km/s, ce qui correspond à une distance de Hubble de 64,2 ± 4,5 Mpc (∼209 millions d'al) [1]. NGC 987 a été découverte par l'astronome germano-britannique William Herschel en 1784.

NGC 987 ist eine linsenförmige Galaxie mit hoher Sternentstehungsrate vom Hubble-Typ SB0/a im Sternbild Dreieck am Nordsternhimmel. Sie ist schätzungsweise 207 Millionen Lichtjahre von der Milchstraße entfernt und hat einen Durchmesser von etwa 95.000 Lj. Im selben Himmelsareal befinden sich die Galaxien NGC 969, NGC 970, NGC 974, NGC 978.
