2019年3月2日 · The General Motors EMD FL9 is a dual-power descendant of the dual service (freight and passenger) FP9. Built for the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad; these locomotives can operate on 3rd rail DC power or as diesel electrics on non-electrified sections.

While based on the standard EMD F-series locomotives, the FL9 was eight feet longer than a stndard F-unit (and four feet longer than an FP9A) in order to handle a larger steam heater boiler and other extra equipment.

With interest waning for streamlined diesels by the mid-1950s, and rail travel in decline, no U.S. railroad elected to purchase the FP9 (although Chicago & North Western did have former FTA's #5400A, 5400D - 5401A, 5401D rebuilt into FP9s in 1955).
