The trainers ensure compliance with the Attorney General’s K9 Training Standards and utilizing the certification methods set forth by the United States Police Canine Association. They also conduct monthly in-service training.

These standards pertain to basic K-9 training and qualification, in-service training and re-evaluation, K-9 instructor qualifications, and K-9 training sites or facilities.

Sheriff Michael F. Strada is pleased to announce the graduation of the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office’s newest K-9 Team from the New Jersey State Police Canine Academy 38th Narcotics Scent Class. Sheriff’s Detective Michael Scott and K-9 “Ace” recently successfully completed an intensive 14-week training course in narcotics detection.

The K-9 team is part of the New Jersey Detect and Render Safe Task Force providing assistance for Homeland Security, NJSP, and local law enforcement in bomb detection operations as requested.

He faithfully served as the partner of Trooper I William Bounds in the Canine Response and Training Unit’s Academy Squad. At 7 years old, Ed dedicated 6 years of service alongside Trooper I Bounds. K9 Ed was trained in patrol and explosive detection.
