The EMD F40PH is a four-axle 3,000–3,200 hp (2.2–2.4 MW) B-B diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division in several variants from 1975 to 1992. Intended for use on Amtrak 's short-haul passenger routes, it became the backbone of Amtrak's diesel fleet after the failure of the EMD SDP40F.

Over the 40 years that followed, NJ TRANSIT Rail Operations improved New Jersey’s passenger train network by investing in modernized equipment, rebuilding infrastructure and rights-of-way, introducing one-seat rides to Penn Station New York on three lines, increasing capacity, extending electrification on two busy corridors, and much, much more.

The NJ TRANSIT F40PH-2CAT includes a range of advanced features including NJ TRANSIT’s in-cab signal system and HEP start-up and shutdown. The F40PH-2CAT is accompanied by NJ TRANSIT’s Comet IV commuter coach and a drivable Comet V cab-car for push-pull operations, and comes with three career scenario for the North Jersey Coast Line route.

2017年12月13日 · The ALP45 locomotives will replace NJ TRANSIT’s aging fleet of GP40 and F40-series locomotives, which were initially manufactured in the late 1960s. The older locomotives have reached the end of their service life and have become increasingly more expensive to maintain.

4124 leads an evening rush hour westbound train from Hoboken bound for Bay Head. 4335 with 5021-6-4124 on its way towards Bay Head, 12:50 PM. This is the only F-40 I saw running on the Coast Line today. Here come the troops! F40PH-2 # 4124 heads a North Jersey Coast Line train thru Rahway. 2305 passes the Manasquan 7-Eleven at 4:03 PM.

NJT 4116 is still fairly new with a train on 16 depot while the 4159, still in DOT colors, is on 12 depot. One of the New York bound trains comes in to South Amboy, where it will cut off and get an E60 for the rest of the trip to Penn Station. 4116 shows off it's fresh paint at the Altoona Shops Open House October 1987.
