Specifics - S3 class, 69" drviers, impressive 245 psi boiler pressure, 25x34" cylinders, engine weight of 428,500 lb, tractive effort of 64,135 lb. All of the S class had Worthington Type 5 SA feed water heaters, Elesco Type E superheaters, Standard Type MB stokers, Precision Type F-3 reverse gear, and 14" (356 mm) piston valves.

NKP 779 logged 677,095 miles of operation and cost $187,000.00 in 1949 ($1,242,114 in 1998 dollars). NKP 779 came home to Lima in 1963 and was put on display in Lincoln Park. 2015年12月6日 · It's been a while since I last uploaded a video of 770. Well, here she is running on my layout which is currently under construction.

In 1949 the Nickel Plate took delivery of the last steam engines built for domestic use by the Lima Locomotive Works, 2-8-4s Nos. 770-779 in class S-3. Lima had also built most of NKP's existing fleet of these super-power locomotives, and until mid-1958 these famous locomotives were still handling high-speed traffic on the Chicago-to-Buffalo line.

Bringing up the rear of the "caboose special", is Nickel Plate #770. Although not as well restored as the Monon #81528 in front of it, the Nickel Plate still gives passengers a chance to ride in a piece of history.
