Chicago & North Western 7009, a model SD50 locomotive built by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors, joins the IRM collection after a pair of generous benefactors provided the funds to purchase the locomotive from its latest owner, National Railway Equipment Co. (NRE), a major broker, rebuilder and lessor of locomotives and rolling stock.

2022年11月3日 · IRM plans to restore the locomotive to its as-delivered C&NW look and use it on the museum’s five-mile-long demonstration railroad. Locomotive 7009 is the first SD50 in the IRM collection, the seventh C&NW locomotive and the 26th EMD locomotive.

Chicago & North Western 7009 is the only preserved example of an SD50 diesel freight locomotive. This model was built in La Grange, Illinois, through most of the 1980s by EMD, with over 400 examples being constructed.

The EMD SD50 is a 3,500-horsepower (2,610 kW) diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division. It was introduced in May 1981 as part of EMD's "50 Series"; production ceased in January 1986.

Most of these shots are in locations I'm familiar with. However, "Benton Iowa" is not one of them. 2007年6月13日 · Yes, the NW/NS EMD SD50S locomotives were built on the same length frame as the SD38-2, SD40-2, SD45-2 and KCS SD40X models. On the SD50S, the engine compartment is 24" shorter at the rear, having one less door per side than a production SD50.
