On August 16, 1987, a McDonnell Douglas MD-80 oper-ated by Northwest Airlines crashed on takeoff from Run-way 3C at Detroit’s Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW). There was only one survivor — a four-year-old girl — among the 149 passengers and six crew members on the aircraft. Two persons on the ground were also fatally injured.
