Interstate 278 (I-278) is an auxiliary Interstate Highway in New Jersey and New York in the United States. The road runs 35.62 miles (57.32 km) from US Route 1/9 (US 1/9) in Linden, New Jersey, northeast to the Bruckner Interchange in the New York City borough of the Bronx.

Interstate 278 begins in an industrial area between Linden and Elizabeth at a partially built interchange with U.S. 1/9. The freeway spurs east to the New Jersey Turnpike and Goethals Bridge approach to Staten Island, New York. Interstate 278 enters all of New York City’s boroughs: Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and Bronx.

The New York section of I-278 begins at the Goethals Bridge at the New York-New Jersey state line. The first section is the Staten Island Expressway, which crosses Staten Island. At the end of the Staten Island Expressway, I-278 goes over the Verrazano Bridge to Brooklyn, where it becomes the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.

2025年2月5日 · I-278 is composed of the Staten Island Expressway, Gowanes Expressway, Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, Grand Central Parkway, and most of the Bruckner Expressway. While it is more of a north-south freeway, it is signed east-west, and is the only road to enter all five boroughs of New York City.

The BQE Central Project focuses on a long-term fix for the highway that prioritizes safety, connectivity, and resiliency. It includes the City-owned portion of the BQE (Interstate-278) from the Atlantic Avenue to the Sands Street interchanges in Brooklyn.

Interstate 278 curves northward toward Jackson Heights and Woodside at the Exit 39 ramp. Laurel Hill Boulevard is visible as it intersects 65th Place to the right. NY 25 begins at the Queensboro Bridge end in Manhattan, to the west, and ends at the Queens-Nassau county border along Jericho Turnpike.
