The K-11 class 4-6-2s were a fleet of pacifics that ran on the New York Central Railroad from 1910 up until the early 1950s. In the first decade of this century some of the most notable advances in American locomotive design and construction was taking place.

N. Y.C. K-11 d 4536, built by Schenectady in August, 1912 heads northbound three car Harlem Division train No. 11 (New York City to Pawling, N.Y. - daily except Saturdays & Sundays) at North White Plains, N.Y. on July 14, 1937.

Class K-11 which had 69" diameter drivers, 26" x 26" cylinders, a 180 psi boiler pressure and they exerted 38,970 pounds of tractive effort. In 1908, the NYC&HR took delivery of sixty "Pacific" type locomotives, which were all built by the American Locomotive Company.

The design is somewhat similar to the earlier K-3 class, but with a notable distinction: K-11s had short, 69 inch drivers; this driver size was a perfect fit as the engines were intended to be used in both freight and passenger service. These machines found a niche, and were used in both freight and passenger service into the 1950s.
