The R62 is a New York City Subway car model built between 1983 and 1985 by Kawasaki Heavy Industries in Kobe, Japan, for the A Division. A total of 325 cars were built, originally as single units. When the reliability of the fleet improved, they were converted to five-car sets.

The R-62's and R-62A's also differed in brake systems, as the R-62's had a standard SMEE set-up from WABCO, with a few refinements, again harking back to the R-10 through R-42 orders, while the R-62A's utiliized a New York Air Brake-manufactured "Cobra" SMEE arrangement, in which the brakes were only affixed to one truck of each car.

2019年1月18日 · If Kawasaki pulls out of the ralicar busiest and Bombardier is not permitted to bid on the R262s, that would leave only Alstom and CAF. Assuming “made in NY” stays in effect, CRRC won’t qualify because they currently don’t have a facility in New York State.

2015年4月13日 · I knew that some R62As (particularly lower 16xx) trains tested on the line during the 1980s, but I'd never seen an R62 photographed. Does anybody know how long this test lasted, and why R62As were later favored over R62s?
