IRC-Compliant Nail Size for Zip Sheathing - GreenBuildingAdvisor
2023年9月2日 · Using 7/16" zip would not move you to row 2 requirements. In my view row 2 nailing (minimum) requirements would begin to "kick in" if your framing is 24" OC or you have corresponding higher wind design requirements. I look at the requirements as a checklist, so for row 1: *min nail .113x2". OK. (using .113 x 2.375) *min penetration 1.5".
Fastening Siding to Zip R-Sheathing - GreenBuildingAdvisor
2022年5月17日 · After all, one inch total thickness isn’t really all that different from 1” board sheathing that used to be common place. You can attach siding through it to the studs fairly easily, and for the most part you don’t know the difference between the combined insulation and sheathing (zip R), and normal plywood or osb.
Fastening Zip R Sheathing - GreenBuildingAdvisor
2022年7月6日 · Unfortunately, too many contractors don't care about dialing in their nail guns and just blast away. I went the extra mile when I did my siding by first spending time with a scrap of R-zip and a 2x4 to get the gun to sit flush with the sheathing. even with that we still liquid-flashed every nail penetration, over kill, but it was mostly my labor.
Badly overdriven nails on Zip: Should I wrap the house?
2019年5月24日 · The corner gap and 1x eats up the tape’s width. The framers used a single piece of Zip seam tape to span those corners, and as a consequence there is almost zero tape in many spots that actually adhere to the board. Zip requires a 1” minimum contact around/above/below all seams and corners. I will attach photos to illustrate muchnof this.
Working With ZIP System R-Sheathing - GreenBuildingAdvisor
2020年3月11日 · The Structural Engineer was very confident in the shear capability of the screwed Zip-R panels. We have been here for about 18 months after completion through numerous high wind events and the house seems pretty solid. I guess, in the future, I might use diagonal metal strapping or 1x4 Let-in bracing for shear and just nail the Zip-R 12 panels.
Zip system with overdriven fasteners - GreenBuildingAdvisor
2019年1月11日 · We ended up sealing every single nail head with liquid flashing. Sealing those nail heads with Zip Tape would have been a TREMENDOUS amount of additional work and time. I can't imagine being on top of a 24' ladder and dealing with hundreds of little pieces of sticky Zip Tape. With a sausage caulk gun and a putty knife, the job goes pretty quickly.
Filling nail holes in Zip? - GreenBuildingAdvisor
I have a question. Framing almost done. Have exterior sheathing done with Zip board. I noticed that the framers' guns' pressure was high, and nails in some areas went deep into Zip, or in some areas nails missed the studs. Question: Does it make sense to try to fill deep shot nails with a liquid barrier of some type? If yes, what type? I was also thinking of putting a …
The Right Nail for this Framing and Sheathing Plan
2021年4月22日 · The issue with common nails, gun nails, etc., is that there are a range of diameters. Nailing schedules will often allow either type, but sometimes need more nails for a connection. An example might be 3 x 0.120" diameter nails or 2 x 0.131" diameter nails (that's just a hypothetical) for the same connection to achieve the same load rating.
GRK Fasteners with Zip-R Sheathing - GreenBuildingAdvisor
2021年12月2日 · I am sheathing a 26×14 porch addition with 2″ xps under zip system. Lead times on Zip-R were prohibitive and I could not source polyiso locally. Zip suggests that fasteners penetrate the framing 1.5,” which means I need a 4″ fastener. I don’t have a …
Working With Zip-R Sheathing - GreenBuildingAdvisor
2019年8月7日 · 4). If you nail off the Zip-R per Huber specs for shear, it's a LOT of nails (added time and materials). In my opinion, the Zip WRB is completely compromised if you don't fill the nail heads. I personally covered every nail hole with Zip flexible flashing and it was VERY time consuming. But, I believe it was a prudent step. 5).
