Namer (Hebrew: נמ"ר, pronounced [naˈmeʁ]; meaning " leopard," and also a syllabic abbreviation of " Na gmash" (APC) and " Mer kava") is an Israeli armoured personnel carrier based on a Merkava Mark IV tank chassis. [5] Namer was developed by and is being assembled by the Israeli Ordnance Corps.

Israeli Namer heavy APC on loan by US Army in 2012. The Namer is a modern heavy APC of Israeli origin. It was developed to supplement older generations of heavy APC's in Israeli service. While earlier heavy APC's were based on the chassis of obsolete main battle tanks, the Namer is a purpose built derivative of the Merkava design.

It is an advanced APC which is slated to enter combat service in the IDF. The Namer is based on the body of the Merkava 4, and much like a tank, it is capable of maneuvering in very difficult terrain. It has advanced defensive systems, and an internal air-conditioning unit which makes battle in areas contaminated by hazardous materials possible.
