Patient factors were a key cause in 82% of cases of perioperative cardiac arrest, anaesthesia in 40% and surgery in 35%.

Of the 36 cardiac arrests in infants, 19 (53%) occurred postoperatively after discharge from recovery, which was a higher proportion than in other age groups.
