The ‘measurement unit code’ field in the ‘measure component’ table shows the unit the trader has to submit on their declaration form. ‘NAR’ means ‘number of items’. The ‘measurement unit qualifier code’ field is usually null, but may be used to qualify the primary unit.
To simplify for users SFTI has compiled a list of codes – some 80 entries, all in all – representing the most commonly used units of measure and package types. The shortlist, attached below, is to support quantities ordered, delivered and invoiced, while codes for the description of article characteristics have not been prioritised.
A recommended standard unit of quantity is specified for each Harmonized System 6-digit subheading; other units of quantity may be retained or used in statistical nomenclatures for collecting international trade data and for other international purposes.
