The Reichsluftschutzbund (RLB; " Reich Air Protection League") was a civil defense organization in Nazi Germany in charge of air raid precautions in residential areas and among smaller businesses. The RLB was organized by Hermann Göring in 1933 as a voluntary association.

The Reichsluftschutzbund, or National Air Raid Protection League, was formed on April 29th, 1933. Initially, the RLB was a voluntary organization staffed by hundreds of thousands of volunteers across Germany, but on March 13th, 1935, its volunteer status was removed and membership in the RLB became obligatory for nearly all Germans.

Reichsluftschutzbund (RLB) The National air protection league was formed in 1933 and made up of civilian volunteers. The helmet insignia changed to the winged Luftschutz decal in 1938 (source L Baer), the helmets also received a different paint color.

With the passage of the Reich air force act on May 26, 1935, which prescribed a general obligation to air raid protection service, the RLB, which had many members at the time, became a quasi-state institution. In Munich, this was expressed, among other things, in the close cooperation between the local RLB offices and the city administration.

On April 29TH 1933 the Deutscher Luftschutzverband was renamed RLB, Reichs Luftschutz Bund, (National Air Raid Protection League) and was given status as an official national organization tasked with all aspects of civil air raid defence.

Hermann Goring declared that the RLB was to be the official air raid protection service of the Reich. The role of the RLB was to protect the cities and population from hostile attacks. This section trained the civilian population in civil defense matters and air raid precautions.
