The NeuConnect Interconnector will create the first direct power link between Germany and Great Britain, connecting two of Europe’s largest energy markets for the first time.

NeuConnect is a high-voltage direct current submarine power cable under construction since 2023 between the Isle of Grain, England and Wilhelmshaven Germany, expected to operate in 2028. [1][2][3][4] It will be the first interconnector between the UK and Germany.

1. Introduction 1.1 NeuConnect Britain Limited (“NeuConnect”) is developing a subsea and underground High Voltage Direct Current (“HVDC”) electricity link between the Isle of Grain in the south east of England and Wilhelmshaven in northern Germany (hereinafter “NeuConnect Interconnector”).

NeuConnect is being developed by an experienced global consortium that includes Meridiam, Allianz Capital Partners on behalf of Allianz Group, Kansai Electric Power and TEPCO, and is backed by some of the world’s largest banks and financial institutions.
