Nichimo 1/48 E13A1 'Jake', by Spirios Pendedekas - MODELING …
I thus felt happy to conclude that trying to replicate a Val cockpit layout in the Jake might be passable under a closed canopy. So, with a (previously built) Hasegawa Val instruction sheet at hand, I was off to my leftover kit bits dungeon to see what useful “bits and pieces” I could use.

Nichimo 1/48 Aichi E13A1b Type 0 Reconnaissance Seaplane
The Nichimo kit came out in the mid 1970s and is a very toy-like model. It has no engine nor proper cockpit as this was intended to house a battery and small electric motor to spin the propeller. Luckily a photo of the actual aircraft shows a tarp covering the cockpit so a whole raft of much needed scratchbuilding could be easily eliminated.
Nichimo 1/48 Aichi E13A1b “Jake”, by Dale Rannals - MODELING …
Nichimos’ 1/48 Aichi E13A1b “Jake” comes in 84 pieces of grey and clear (2pcs) plastic. I do believe it is the only Jake in 1/48th scale offered. It dates from the late 70’s and has raised detail, but since this aircraft pre-dates flush riveting I think this is more accurate here.
Nichimo Model Kits
Nichimo was founded in 1951 and was a very famous Japanese kit manufacturer both at home and around the world. This model dates from the late 1950s or very early 1960s and is part of an extensive and sought-after 1/500 scale IJN Warship Series with expensive glossy box art from the 'Golden Age' of Japanese model kit illustrations.
