These guidelines supplement the Registration standard: Continuing professional development by providing further information about the NMBA’s minimum annual CPD requirements and how you can meet these requirements to ensure your CPD is effective.

Continuing professional development (CPD) is how nurses and midwives maintain, improve and broaden their knowledge, expertise and competence, and develop the personal and professional qualities required throughout their professional lives. The revised Registration standard: Continuing professional development came into effect on 1 June 2016.

This portfolio can be used to help you record your continuing professional development (CPD). It has two parts, Part A includes completed examples of CPD activities and Part B is a blank template portfolio that you can use to record your learning goals, CPD activities and reflections.

The NMBA’s Registration standard: Continuing professional development requires nurses and midwives to complete a minimum number of continuing professional development (CPD) hours directly relevant to a nurse or midwife’s context of practice.

The NMBA requires all registered and enrolled nurses and midwives to complete a minimum of 20 hours of CPD per year. The CPD hours must be relevant to the individual nurse’s or midwife’s context of practice.

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) requires that nurses and midwives registered with them complete a minimum number of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours that are directly relevant to the nurse or midwife’s context of practice.

This CPD portfolio template has been developed to help you with this and to meet the record keeping requirement listed in the Board’s Continuing professional development registration standard.

The NMBA provides a sample template on their website for use by nurses and midwives. Each state and territory Branch of the ANMF also provides various tools and resources, sometimes referred to as a portfolio, which can assist nurses and midwives with keeping the required CPD cycle documentation.
