We tried our best to talk them into letting us in, but no success. So what exactly goes on in those bars? The Dorman wouldn't let it slip either.

Gaijin (外人, [ɡai(d)ʑiɴ]; 'outsider, alien') is a Japanese word for foreigners and non-Japanese citizens in Japan, specifically being applied to foreigners of non-Japanese ethnicity and those from the Japanese diaspora who are not Japanese citizens. [1]

I.E. in present day language, 'gaijin' is a slur because no one around me uses it. It doesn't get used on TV. Because modern Japanese people also think it's a slur.

The racial discrimination is not crime in Japan but There were some civil lawsuit with "no gaijin allowed". Case 1: One public bath in Otaru city refused the entrance of foreigners due to their bad manner for bathing.

2013年5月29日 · Hikosaemon, a man who's lived and worked in Japan for over a decade, sometimes sees "gaijin" used in inappropriate contexts, but doesn't believe that there's necessarily anything wrong with the word itself: To me, the word "gaijin" is slang for someone who looks like a non-Japanese.

2014年10月11日 · In a country that is 98% Japanese, the word Gaijin is usually the easiest way to refer to someone who is not Japanese. Many other countries have similar words but in multi-cultural (and politically correct) America it is considered offensive to refer to someone as an outsider. So both parties need to come together to work on this issue.
