Nomex® meta-aramid, poly(meta-phenyleneisophthalamide), is prepared from meta-phenylenediamine and isophthaloyl chloride in an amide solvent. It is a long chain polyamide where at least 85% of the amide linkages are attached directly to two aromatic rings.
