In this book, if I remember correctly, there are only two accounts of a square failing and they failed because of other reasons such as fleeing men running into the square.

I'm playing in a multiplayer campaign, and my line infantry are always destroyed by cavalry because the Square Formation button is locked. I can't find any research that will allow me to unlock it, either. How do I acquire it? You have to toggle it BEFORE melee contact.

2009年10月13日 · The danger is that if NTW, or any set of wargame rules, allows squares to move (as squares) and retain their advantages against cavalry, it creates a number of potential expliots and tactical options that never existed historically. I think one has to be very careful when talking about moving squares.

The only elite/better infantry unit (beyik janissary grenadiers) can't form square. Note: Ottoman empire pairs well with factions like France and GB for elite and better infantry and the ottomans can give melee support to his allies.

2016年3月10日 · Cavalry is also useful for forcing infantry units into square formation, which is highly vulnerable to artillery and infantry, especially to infantry as suddenly they can only bring a quarter of their guns to bare on your attacking line. If your opponent refuses to form square, then the cavalry will have an easy time wiping them out.

When the battle begins, the player has complete control of his/her units and is able to issue a variety of command to the different units, like, for example, order the men to form a square in order to defend against cavalry or order the cannons to limber/unlimber.
