David Kealohalani Nuuhiwa III (more commonly known as David Nuuhiwa) is a Hawaiian surfer. Nuuhiwa was born in 1948 in Honolulu, Hawaii, the son of a Waikiki beachboy and martial arts instructor, and began surfing at age five, one year after his mother died. He moved to California in 1961 with his father David Nuuhiwa II.

David is one of the worlds most legendary surfers. He continues to make appearances signing autographs and participating in events. David was born on Oahu, Hawaii on July 23rd, 1948. He's literally been surfing since he was five years old. His father was Professors Kaito Gakko.

2005年1月22日 · Prof. Nuuhiwa was a early Danzan Ryu jujitsu/Judo black belt from the Okizaki Dojo, and one of the first men to teach the Hawaiian art of "Lua" on the mainland. His martial arts career spanned over 70 years. He was also a well known surfing judge, and coached his son David Nuuhiwa Jr. to several surfing championships.

David Kawaikoolihili Nuuhiwa (Uncle David) was born in Kauai with a rich native Hawaiian legacy. His Hawaiian name refers to the lacelike foam on a spilling wave. He was born – literally – in the river a Hanalei, Kauai, and his life has always been connected with the water.

Quintessentially smooth goofyfoot surfer from Southern California; best known as a noserider, but regarded by many as the finest surfer of the 1960s; winner of the United States Surfing Championships in 1968 and 1971, and runner-up in the 1972 World Surfing Championships.

David Nuuhiwa was an innovator of surfboard designs, helping to create the template used on most noseriders of the time. As he moved into the 70's, David adapted to twin fin fish and skated circles around the long lines taken in the past.
